COUSINO 27, ANCHOR BAY 21: True Patriots everywhere have a reason to be proud ...at least true Cousino Patriots.

Coach Mike Powell's Cousino squad evened its overall record at 1-1 (1-0 in the division) with a dramatic victory.

There was no time remaining on the clock when Tony Bassett scampered into the end zone from three yards out. He'd taken a pitch from quarterback Brian Blackburn and sprinted around the right side of the line. Bassett carried the ball 13 times for 72 yards.

That play was dialed up thanks to a long-distance connection from Bassett to Ben McCord that covered almost 50 yards.

Anchor Bay knotted the score at 21-21 with less than a minute to play.

"Emotionally it was up and down, up and down," said Powell. "It was a good football game. It was good to come back after getting smoked by Stevenson in the opener."

The Patriots fell to Stevenson 42-6 last week.

Blackburn played a quality game. He carried the ball 12 times and gained 76 yards. He also threw 15 times and completed nine of those passes for 175 yards.

Blackburn opened the scoring for Cousino when he busted into the end zone from the 10. The Pa

triots would score two more touchdowns in the second quarter. Blackburn teamed up with McCord on a 14-yard scoring pass, and Bassett scored on a nine-yard run.

Anchor Bay responded with a pair of touchdown runs of its own in the third quarter.

Defensively, senior linebacker Rick Myers led the Patriots with six tackles.
